Fast Track The Process of Keyword Discovery For Your Blog

Oftentimes keyword research is not a top priority that comes to mind when you are setting out to launch a blog. Whether it’s your very first blog ever, or perhaps you’re a more seasoned blogger starting out on a new blogging venture? Rest assured keyword research is most likely nowhere near the top of your priority list – right?

So many other tasks seem to take precedence right now… Choosing the right blog theme, color scheme, logo or no logo, how many posts to write, what to write about, when to post, when to launch – and on, and on, and on it goes.

If you answered yes, and are feeling a little overwhelmed that’s OK… You will be glad to know that you are not alone in this thought process. In spite of popular misconception, keyword research is not difficult or only performed by SEOs or those other really geeky marketing folks… You can do it all yourself and ironically enough you may even find it to be quite fun. Are you with me?

Great! Now let me fast-track the process of discovering your keywords. Below you will find valuable tools, tips and other resources you can use to discover your keywords and incorporate them into your spanking new blog posts! Proud you will be.

Keywords that relate to your blog’s focus topics in essence will be the cornerstone of your blog. With the onset of popular tools such as Google+ the chance of gaining high organic search results for your keywords is diminishing. But don’t worry, all hope is not lost!.

Follow these steps to start keyword research for your blog:

Step 1: Download Spreadsheet

Let’s start by having you use the free “Keyword Spreadsheet” that I created for you in Google Docs. Don’t have a Google account? Don’t worry, you can also download the Keyword Spreadsheet as well!

Step 2: Share Spreadsheet With Your Peeps

If you are sharing a blog with multiple authors, have an assistant, or have anyone else helping you out with your online networking then it would be wise to share the spreadsheet with them. It’s a great way to ensure that the content you syndicate strategically contains your important keywords. Smart, right? Now wait a second here, when I say strategically I do not mean “stuff your keywords in there no matter what“… Participating in anything blackhatish will surely backfire and mess up all the hard work you’re doing to establish yourself in the first place.

Step 3: Don’t Forget Longtail Keywords

Use Long Tail Keywords too! Long tail keywords are very, very important as well. Just think about what you would type in Google to find a local bakery shop if you where in say, New Jersey? “Bakery New Jersey”, “Bakery shop in New Jersey”. See you get the point!

Step 4: Use Keyword Tools

Take full advantage of the Free Keyword research tools out there:

Step 5: Continue Your Search & Keyword Marketing

Maintaining your keyword spreadsheet going forward is one of the most important factors to consider when trying to have your blog rank higher for particular keywords and keyword phrases. Again, by making this keyword list easily accessible to everyone that needs it you will be giving them a valuable resource to refer to over and over for all content creation projects.

Step 6: Sharpen The Saw (thank you to the late Stephen Covey)

The process can become addicting which could mean many late nights (which is when bloggers tend to come out!). Take it slow throughout your research journey to ensure you are committing a healthy balance of time to your task. Rely on readily available resources to learn more tips and techniques:

Oh, and sometimes Google takes a while to crawl and index the fresh content you are posting to your blog so be patient! And be sure you didn’t forget to submit your blog to Google.
